Bastille Day is July 14 – Here’s Where To Go for French Food

July 13, 2020

This July 14, we will celebrate the 231st anniversary of Bastille Day, which is the anniversary of the Storming of the Bastille in 1789, a turning point of the French Revolution. However, you don’t need to have even stepped on French soil to celebrate – instead, you can head to one of the many French eateries we have in our Octagon neighborhood.

If you’re looking to enjoy authentic French dishes such as coq au vin, cassoulet and boeuf bourguignon on Bastille Day, check out some of these French restaurants nearby for a meal that’ll make you feel like you’re dining in the heart of Paris.

Jean Claude 2, located at 1343 2nd Ave, New York which is 14 minutes from your Octagon apartment, is a warm-colored bistro dishing up classic French fare in a relaxed, colorful space.

The tables at Jean Claude 2 are often occupied by a leisurely crowd of multilingual locals chatting with the servers in French. In true Continental style, servers will gladly leave you to linger over your tarte tatin and Muscat for as long as you like — which will almost certainly be awhile.

Cafe Triskell, located at 33-04 36th Ave, Astoria which is 11 minutes from your Octagon apartment, is a compact, casual French cafe serving sweet and savory crepes plus a small menu of bistro staples.

Chef and owner Philippe Fallait, originally from Bretagne, France, established Cafe Triskell in 2007. He was eager to return to his roots and wanted to share the comfort foods of Bretagne, so the eatery was born.
