With the cooler temperature and changing leaves, it’s finally starting to feel like fall around Roosevelt Island. Spend some time outdoors and celebrate the season by checking out some of the events taking place near the Octagon below.
Fall Activities at the Queens County Farm
Museum – In this day and
age, it’s hard to imagine a time where Queens County was sprawling farm
country. On weekends this October, celebrate the fall season and get a sense of
the county’s history at the Queens County Farm Museum. Every weekend this
month, you can explore the can shop for fresh New York apples, enjoy local
apple cider and seasonal produce from the museum farmstand, and browse the
ground. Pick some pumpkins from the pumpkin patch, or spend some time in the
3-acre corn maze. Gate admission to the farm museum is free.
Fall Scavenger Hunt in Central Park – This month, be a tourist in your own city
while taking part in a scavenger hunt in Central Park. Gather your friends to
make a team, or use the opportunity to meet some new people in your city.
You’ll search for clues to make your way through the hunt while taking in the
beauty of the season in the park. Tickets to participate are $20 per person.
Giant Pumpkin Weekend- Giant pumpkin Weekend at the New York Botanical Garden returns this year from Saturday, October 26th – Sunday, October 27th. Get in the spirit of fall and marvel at massive pumpkins that have been shipped in from around the county. Meet the growers and enjoy photo ops with these unusual gourds. While there, stroll the grounds to see the changing foliage on the 250-acre property.
