Thanksgiving near Roosevelt Island

November 21, 2019

The holiday season is upon us in New York, with Thanksgiving only days away! If you will be staying local near The Octagon for the holiday, considering checking out one of the many activities taking place in the area (in between filling up on delicious Thanksgiving food of course!)

Friendsgiving on Thanksgiving Eve –If you’d rather avoid the crowds on Thanksgiving Eve, consider hosting Friendsgiving with your group! If you’d rather not cook for the whole crowd, consider getting Thanksgiving catering from Butterfield Market. Located on the Upper East Side on Lexington Avenue, Butterfield offers fresh roasted turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing and all of your other favorite holiday side dishes. Check out their menu at the link below.

New York City Turkey Trot – Prepare in advance for that giant meal you’ll be eating for Thanksgiving dinner and participate in the New York City Turkey Trot! Taking place on Thanksgiving Morning at 9:15 am, you can partake in a half marathon or 5k run. Although the event used to take place at Roosevelt Island in the past, this year the event is hosted at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens. For more information and to register, visit the site below.

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade– If you’re more about the excitement and tradition of Thanksgiving rather than getting some exercise in at a Turkey Trot, consider checking out the infamous Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, taking place right in your backyard! The parade will kick off at 9am at 77th St and Central Park West and will make its way down to 34th Street in Herald Square. Arrive early to secure your place along the sidewalk to view performances from Celine Dion, Billy Porter, Black Eyed Peas, Chris Young, Ciara, Idina Menzel and more!
